    KAJIAN SIFAT FISIK TANAH PADA PERKEBUNAN SALAK PASCA ERUPSI MERAPI DI DESA BANYUADEM KECAMATAN SRUMBUNG KABUPATEN MAGELANG

    Salak Nglumut merupakan salah satu komoditas unggulan dari Kecamatan Srumbung Magelang. Akibat erupsi Gunung Merapi tahun 2010 produksi salak mengalami penurunan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengkaji sifat fisik tanah pada tanaman salak pasca erupsi Merapi di Desa Banyuadem Kecamatan Srumbung Kabupaten Magelang. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei 2012 sampai September 2012. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode survey, pengambilan sampel tanah di lakukan pada titik pewakil pada kedalaman tanah ± 20 cm sebagai pewakil pasca erupsi Merapi di tanah yang ditanami tanaman salak, dan kedalaman 20 cm sampai dengan 50 cm sebagai pewakil sebelum erupsi Merapi. Parameter yang diteliti Tekstur, BV dan BJ, Permeabilitas, Porositas. Hasil analisis tanah pasca erupsi dibandingkan dengan sifat fisik tanah sebelum erupsi. Permeabilitas tanah pasca erupsi Merapi mengalami penurunan di sebagian tempat dan peningkatan di tempat lain. Tekstur tanah sebelum erupsi Merapi didominasi oleh fraksi pasir, sedangkan setelah erupsi Merapi didominasi oleh fraksi debu. Porositas pasca erupsi Merapi nilainya lebih rendah dari pada sebelum erupsi Merapi. Dikarenakan penambahan material baru dari erupsi Merapi berupa bahan kasar abu vulkanik. Erupsi Merapi telah menyebabkan beberapa perubahan pada sifat fisik tanah serta penurunan pada produksi salak Di Desa Banyuadem.     The study elaborated approaches for adequated use of the surgical scrub and it evaluated, through systematized observation, the performance of the surgical team during the surgery. The adopted procedure was very valid, allowing to recognize positive and problematic aspects. Except the protecting glasses, all the other components of the surgical scrub were used. The subject located in the use form, where caps and masks were more problematic among anesthesists and circulate nurses; apron and gloves among surgeons and, mainly, scrub nurses.O estudo elaborou critérios para uso adequado da paramentação cirúrgica e avaliou, por observação sistematizada, o desempenho da equipe cirúrgica durante a cirurgia. O procedimento adotado foi válido, permitindo reconhecer aspectos positivos e problemáticos. A exceção do óculos protetor, todos os outros componentes da paramentação foram utilizados. A questão se situou na forma de utilização, onde gorros e máscaras foram mais problemáticos entre anestesistas e circulantes; avental e luvas entre cirurgiões e, principalmente, instrumentadores

    O estudo elaborou critérios de avaliação dos componentes da paramentação cirúrgica de hospitais do município de São Paulo. A maior dificuldade nessa elaboração deveu-se à inexistência de normas e consenso sobre a porosidade dos tecidos como barreira microbiológica e de contato com sangue e outros fluidos. Contudo, foi possível reconhecer aspectos positivos e problemáticos. Observou-se que existe semelhanças dos componentes entre os hospitais, no que se refere a modelo e tipo de tecido. As luvas foram os componentes com maior índice de adequação e os propés, os de maior índice de inadequação. O aspecto mais problemático referiu-se aos controles de aquisição e de reprocessamento dos componentes re-utilizáveis.The study elaborated evaluation patterns of the components of the surgical scrub in hospitals of the district of São Paulo. The most important difficulty was the lack of rules and consent on the types of the fabrics, as a microbiological and contact with blood and other fluids barrier. However, it was possible to identify positive and problematic aspects. It was observed that the components are similar among the hospitals, considering the design and the way of fabrics production. Gloves were the ones with the best quality results, while shootweares were the worst. The most problematic aspect was referred to the acquisition controls and the re-use process of the components

    The Effects of Breeding Protocol in C57BL/6J Mice on Adult Offspring Behaviour

    Animal experiments have demonstrated that a wide range of prenatal exposures can impact on the behaviour of the offspring. However, there is a lack of evidence as to whether the duration of sire exposure could affect such outcomes. We compared two widely used methods for breeding offspring for behavioural studies. The first involved housing male and female C57Bl/6J mice together for a period of time (usually 10–12 days) and checking for pregnancy by the presence of a distended abdomen (Pair-housed; PH). The second involved daily introduction of female breeders to the male homecage followed by daily checks for pregnancy by the presence of vaginal plugs (Time-mated; TM). Male and female offspring were tested at 10 weeks of age on a behavioural test battery including the elevated plus-maze, hole board, light/dark emergence, forced swim test, novelty-suppressed feeding, active avoidance and extinction, tests for nociception and for prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the acoustic startle response. We found that length of sire exposure (LSE) had no significant effects on offspring behaviour, suggesting that the two breeding protocols do not differentially affect the behavioural outcomes of interest. The absence of LSE effects on the selected variables examined does not detract from the relevance of this study. Information regarding the potential influences of breeding protocol is not only absent from the literature, but also likely to be of particular interest to researchers studying the influence of prenatal manipulations on adult behaviour

    Too Depressed to Swim or Too Afraid to Stop? A Reinterpretation of the Forced Swim Test as a Measure of Anxiety-Like Behavior

    Depression is one of the most common forms of mental illness. Despite decades of research, the mechanisms underlying this disorder remain unknown. To help elucidate the pathophysiology of depression, researchers are developing animal models of psychiatric disorders, including depression, and assessing for mood-related phenotypes. There are a limited number of behavioral assays available to assess depression-like behaviors in rodents but by far the most common is the forced swim test (FST). Although the FST is considered the gold standard for studying depression-like behaviors, there are strong reasons to question the interpretation that immobility represents ‘despair’ and escape-directed behaviors such as climbing represent the absence of a depression-like phenotype. It has recently been proposed that immobility in the FST is an adaptive learned response and reflects a switch from active to passive coping strategies (De Kloet and Molendijk, 2016). Although we agree with De Kloet and Molendijk (2016) that immobility is adaptive, we disagree on the interpretation of active versus passive coping strategies. Instead, we believe that escape-directed behaviors are driven by anxiety. We argue this perspective on the basis of comorbidity, gene targeting, and pharmacological studies

    Prenatal Excess Glucocorticoid Exposure and Adult Affective Disorders:A Role for Serotonergic and Catecholamine Pathways

    Fetal glucocorticoid exposure is a key mechanism proposed to underlie prenatal ‘programming’ of adult affective behaviours such as depression and anxiety. Indeed, the glucocorticoid metabolising enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2), which is highly expressed in the placenta and the developing fetus, acts as a protective barrier from the high maternal glucocorticoids which may alter developmental trajectories. The programmed changes resulting from maternal stress or bypass or from the inhibition of 11β-HSD2 are frequently associated with alterations in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Hence, circulating glucocorticoid levels are increased either basally or in response to stress accompanied by CNS region-specific modulations in the expression of both corticosteroid receptors (mineralocorticoid and glucocorticoid receptors). Furthermore, early-life glucocorticoid exposure also affects serotonergic and catecholamine pathways within the brain, with changes in both associated neurotransmitters and receptors. Indeed, global removal of 11β-HSD2, an enzyme that inactivates glucocorticoids, increases anxiety‐ and depressive-like behaviour in mice; however, in this case the phenotype is not accompanied by overt perturbation in the HPA axis but, intriguingly, alterations in serotonergic and catecholamine pathways are maintained in this programming model. This review addresses one of the potential adverse effects of glucocorticoid overexposure in utero, i.e. increased incidence of affective behaviours, and the mechanisms underlying these behaviours including alteration of the HPA axis and serotonergic and catecholamine pathways

    Neurobiology of rodent self-grooming and its value for translational neuroscience

    Self-grooming is a complex innate behaviour with an evolutionarily conserved sequencing pattern and is one of the most frequently performed behavioural activities in rodents. In this Review, we discuss the neurobiology of rodent self-grooming, and we highlight studies of rodent models of neuropsychiatric disorders-including models of autism spectrum disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder-that have assessed self-grooming phenotypes. We suggest that rodent self-grooming may be a useful measure of repetitive behaviour in such models, and therefore of value to translational psychiatry.
